Not only did Wimmer Motorsports and Harrison Burton win in their first race under a new banner, but they also picked up the trophy for one of the biggest Super Late Model races of the year.  Burton made a move on Jeff Choquette coming out of turn four on the final lap to win the Rattler 250 and hold the rattlesnake in Victory Lane.

“It’s always big to win, but for us to get the win in our first race under Wimmer Motorsports is really special,” said Wimmer Motorsports Crew Chief and Owner Chris Wimmer.  “I thought we would have a good car for the race, but you never know how things will play out. I’ve never been so happy to see a snake.”

“It felt amazing to win a major Super Late Model race,” said Burton.  “They are so, so hard to win, so when it does happen it’s so much fun.”

Burton qualified 12th and started the 250-lap race from that position.  He held steady in the top-five for most of the afternoon and made his move after the second pit stop with just under 75 laps to go.  The Wimmer Motorsports No. 12 jumped from fourth to the lead in 13th laps and held the top spot.  Back to back cautions flew and the field went green for the final time with six laps to go.  Choquette edged Burton on the start, but the No. 12 fought back and dove to the inside of Choquette on the final turn to take the checkered flag.

“We were struggling with free in all weekend, so when we had to put two tires on I knew the goal would be to maintain.  Once we got four tires, it was game on. All I was thinking on that final lap was I had to win that race,” said Burton. “The way we lost it last year on a late race restart, I really wanted to redeem myself.  Honestly, I didn’t know if I would get him or not, but that’s what made it exciting.”

“I knew if Harrison could get a good restart and stick with him he’d have a shot,” said Wimmer.  “Choquette was strong all weekend too and when he got the advantage, I wasn’t sure Harrison could get him back in so few laps, but he drove his butt off and made the move of the race to win it.”

The next tentative race for Wimmer Motorsports and Burton is the first Southern Super Series Blizzard race on Friday, April 27th at Five Flags Speedway.  For more information on Wimmer Motorsports please visit or @wimmermtsprts on Twitter.  A new website will be launching soon with SHIFT Marketing & Design.
